- Added some contributions to the Sparc OEM-logo howto.
- 2001-xx-xx
- Created an ftp archive with RedHat-7.1 rpms, rebuilt for sparc32. (this is not a complete redhat-7.1 distro, but it greatly improves the last official RedHat release for sparc.)
- 2001-09-11
- I wrote a patch for play-ac3 (from the emu10k1 driver, http://opensource.creative.com/) to allow it to play an ac3 stream from the ogle software DVD player. Download the modified C source or the patch.
- version 1.2 can re-calculate frame_size (often changes between an intro sequence and the actual movie or the menus. Also, skipping to the beginning of a frame after jumping to/from menus is important). Patch available as well.
- 2001-10-08
- As with all redhat releases since 6.x, I created CD-labels for the new 7.2 release. Get them from the CCL ftp server.
- 2001-11-19
- New version of the play-ac3 patch. It now survives very weird ac3-streams, but is still not 100% (My Se7en DVD is not played correctly, I think the frame-size for some parts of the stream is wrong somehow.).

- The RedHat mirror at ftp.ccl.kuleuven.be is now apt-enabled for rh73 and rh80. Please use it only from BELNET (belgian research network) sites.
All info is available on http://apt.ccl.kuleuven.be/.

- New CD-labels for Aurora SPARC Linux 1.0. Find them here
- 2003-10-26
- Created 2 nokia cellphone logo's with gnokii: (maxrpm) and (peace-love-linux). Thanks to my lovely girlfriend Linda for the tux-head !

- apt.ccl.kuleuven.be is now apt-enabled for rh62, rh73, rh9 and fc1. We also have apt-enabled updates, freshrpms and dag-rpms mirrors. Info on http://apt.ccl.kuleuven.be/.
- 2004-01-23
- Created yum.ccl.kuleuven.be with fc1 os,updates,freshrpms,dag repositories. Info on http://yum.ccl.kuleuven.be/.
- 2005-06-25
- wrote a decent rpm version-release comparison routine with the help of Dag Wieers, based on code from http://penguin.triumf.ca/slides/kickstart/u2d-8 . Beware, serious regexp trickery inside ;-)
- 2005-07-07
- New CD-labels for Fedora Core 4 (Stentz). Find them here

- Set up "SSH over HTTP CONNECT" proxy functionality on Apache. Dag explored this some more, and wrote a nice document about it. This technique is very useful if you have an Apache webserver that you can reach from your current location, and you want to connect to a specified TCP service (such as Secure SHell), that is unreachable from your location, but is reachable from the webservers location. Sample use: you are on an office netwerk that allows outgoing connections only over ports 80 and 443, but want to connect to an external IRC server on port 6667 or an external SSH server on port 22. Your Apache server will serve as a stepping stone, by using the mod_proxy_connect module.

- Installed an old D-Link DFE-570TX quad fast ethernet PCI card in my (equally old) Cobalt Raq3. Tulip driver works fine, but needs "mii-tool -R" on each of the four interfaces to start autonegotiation properly.

- Running FC3 on a Compaq Proliant 1600, I investigated the proper procedure for replacing a hot-plug internal disk.
- Example config: software raid5 over /dev/sdc1, /dev/sdd1, /dev/sde1 resulting in /dev/md0 .
- Scenario: /dev/sdc fails, mdmonitor informs admin of failure: "a Fail event has been detected ...".
- cat /proc/mdstat
md0 : active raid5 sde1[2] sdd1[1] sdc1[3](F)
35551616 blocks level 5, 64k chunk, algorithm 0 [3/2] [_UU]
- Admin removes failed disk from raid set: /sbin/raidhotremove /dev/md0 /dev/sdc1
- cat /proc/mdstat
md0 : active raid5 sde1[2] sdd1[1]
35551616 blocks level 5, 64k chunk, algorithm 0 [3/2] [_UU]
- Admin pulls old drive, plugs new drive, and makes sure the new disk spins up by running /sbin/fdisk -l /dev/sdc
- Then, admin forces the Linux kernel to re-discover the disk:
echo "scsi remove-single-device 0 0 2 0" > /proc/scsi/scsi followed by echo "scsi add-single-device 0 0 2 0" > /proc/scsi/scsi
- Careful ! If you remove/add the disk before it spins up, there is currently no known way to let the disk spin up again without rebooting !
- Admin makes sure partition table is correct, /sbin/fdisk /dev/sdc , create partition, with type fd Linux raid autodetect.
- Admin adds disk to /dev/md0: /sbin/raidhotadd /dev/md0 /dev/sdc1
- cat /proc/mdstat
md0 : active raid5 sdc1[3] sde1[2] sdd1[1]
35551616 blocks level 5, 64k chunk, algorithm 0 [3/2] [_UU]
[>....................] recovery = 0.1% (22272/17775808) finish=13.2min speed=22272K/sec
- You can watch the resyncing process using /usr/bin/watch /bin/cat /proc/mdstat

- Upgraded to FC5. My Tyan Tiger133 motherboard seems to require noapic, otherwise the PCI list remains empty.
- 2006-03-26
- Shameless plug: MozBackup is an extremely cool tool that migrates (and backs up/restores) settings and mailboxes of mozilla products such as Thunderbird.

- Wrote a dstat plugin to display VMware ESX vmkernel statistics about HBA usage (KBread and KBwritten per vmhba per interval). Expected to appear in dstat 0.6.5. You can use the el3 rpm of dstat on the service console.
- 2006-12-26
- Wrote another dstat plugin to display VMware ESX vmkernel statistics about interrupts. Expected to appear in dstat 0.6.5 as well.
- 2008-01-15
- Found out that my first dstat plugin for VMware ESX (vmkhba) doesn't work anymore with ESX 3.5. Wrote another dstat plugin to display VMware ESX "vmkernel port" network statistics (bytes received/sent). Expected to appear in dstat 0.6.7.
